About the Position

Anglicare’s Children & Families have a long history of providing family and children support services, including family intervention, foster and kinship care, counselling, relationship support and much more. We provide Fostering, Residential and Semi-Independent services to children and young people with complex support needs, who are not able to live with their own family and are living in out-of-home-care.

Our compassionate and proactive team are looking for positive, caring and professional Youth Workers to provide care and support to young people in out of home care within our residential properties in Hervey Bay and Maryborough. We have multiple casual and part time positions available for dedicated and flexible carers who are able to work sleepover shifts (up to four per fortnight; 24-hour shifts with an 8 hour sleep component) and provide care for young people aged 12-17 who may experiencing trauma-based and complex behaviours. Youth Workers may also be required to cover shifts throughout the Central Queensland region (as practical) so flexibility and a current Queensland Driver Licence are essential.

The daily assistance provided by Youth Workers will include supporting young people with education, medical appointments, family contact, social and cultural connections, positive living skills and budgeting, and enhances the development of self-regard, community inclusion and family relationships.

Positions will commence early 2019, however if successfully selected, you will need to be available for an Assessment Day between 11th - 15th February (date will be confirmed prior to shortlisting).

 

About You

Complimenting your exceptional communication skills and previous experience in child and family support will be:

  • Ability to engage children and youth quickly and effectively and support them in the development of independent living skills
  • Sound understanding of child behaviour and development, working from a trauma-informed framework
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to identify with this heritage
  • Ability to observe and navigate the complex family dynamics often present for children in care
  • Confidence and professional response to crisis situations - working within risk and compliance guidelines
  • A team player who works in a collaborative manner, but is capable of operating autonomously on a daily basis
  • Leadership skills and ability to provide a positive adult role model to young people, assisting them to develop confidence and self-worth
  • Proven background working with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and the capacity to display cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Effective contribution to Care Plans by providing evidence-based insight, assessments and evaluations

You are required to hold:

  • To identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (this is viewed as a genuine occupational requirement)
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Youth Services, Community Services or similar
  • A valid Blue Card (Working with Children)
  • Current First Aid Certificate with CPR
  • A current Queensland Driver Licence
  • Be willing and able work a 24/7 rotating roster which may include weekends and public holidays
